রাজলক্ষ্মী জন্মভূমিতে পৌঁছিলেন। বিহারী তাঁহাকে পৌঁছাইয়া চলিয়া আসিবে এরূপ কথা ছিল, কিন্তু সেখানকার অবস্থা দেখিয়া, সে ফিরিল না।
রাজলক্ষ্মীর পৈতৃক বাটীতে দুই-একটি অতিবৃদ্ধা বিধবা বাঁচিয়া ছিলেন মাত্র। চারি দিকে ঘন জঙ্গল ও বাঁশবন, পুষ্করিণীর জল সবুজবর্ণ, দিনে-দুপুরে শেয়ালের ডাকে রাজলক্ষ্মীর চিত্ত উদ্ভ্রান্ত হইয়া উঠে।
